Biography of Consul General Iqbal Ahmed

Mr Iqbal Ahmed is a career diplomat belonging to 21st batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (Foreign Affairs). He has been serving as the Consul General of Bangladesh in Miami, FL since the establishment of the Mission on 15 September 2021. Before that he served as the Consul General of Bangladesh in Milan, Italy for more than 3 years. At the headquarters, he served as Director (Foreign Secretary’s Office) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh for four years. He also served as Director in United Nations/Multilateral Economic Affairs/SAARC & BIMSTEC wings, as well as Director of Foreign Service Academy. He had his first foreign posting at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN in New York where he served as Second/First Secretary from 2009-2011. Mr Ahmed received B.Com (Hon's) and M Com degrees in Marketing from the University of Dhaka. He did MBA (Finance major) from IBA, University of Dhaka in 2000. He also received a post graduate diploma in Public Administration-CIAP (Major: International Relations) from ENA, Strasbourg, France in 2005. Before joining government service in 2003, Mr Ahmed served as an Analyst in a US-based data mining and analysis firm named Essential Analysis LLC (Abiskar International LLC) for 2 years, and a credit rating company named CRISL in Dhaka as Financial Analyst. He is a widely traveled person (visited 45 countries) and has specialization in multilateral diplomacy and consular affairs. He is married and has a son. He loves watching TV/movies, and reading business/economics and travel related books and journals.
