General Instructions for ePassport application

Who can apply for e-passport?

To apply for e-passport, you must have a photocopy of either a Bangladeshi National ID (NID) or a Birth Registration Certificate (BRC), popularly known as 'digital birth certificate', having a 17 digit number which is verifiable at https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/. In case of BRC, please make sure that the webpage having your verified BRC contains the necessary data, e.g. names of the applicant and the parents in English and they match with the corresponding data in your application. If they do not match, please contact the office from which the BRC was issued to do the necessary correction. Please also keep in mind that if your previous passport is an e-passport and it contains your NID number as the Personal Identification Number, you can only apply with NID number, not with BRC number. Additionally, if you are currently a US citizen, you need to show the Dual Nationality/Citizenship Certificate issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Bangladesh. If you are not a US citizen, you are required to show a proof of your legal status in the US, e.g. valid visa or permanent resident card, etc.

The applicants with Bangladeshi passport having more than one year validity can't apply unless it is proved by a supporting document justifying the legitimate necessity.

Application and enrollment:

  • The applicant must apply for an e-passport online (https://www.epassport.gov.bd).

  • While filling in the online application, you need to choose Florida mission as your passport office. Your present address must be an address in the USA and permanent address in Bangladesh

  • The applicant has to provide his/her biometric information(enrollment) at the Consulate after successful online application at the aforementioned website. The enrollment time is every day from 10 am to 1 pm during office hours. It is to be noted that the passport is usually ready within 4-6 weeks after the application is received (if there are no errors in the information and if the police clearance is completed in a timely manner, if applicable).

List of Required Documents:

While coming to the Consulate for biometric enrolment, please bring the required documents mentioned below:

  1. Application Summary, i.e. confirmation page of the online submission having barcode (Please make sure it shows "Application Submitted" on the top left corner of the page). If the application is not submitted, it will not be available in the server of the Embassy for enrolment.
  2. Complete application (3 pages) that has been submitted online.
  3. If the applicant is less than 06 (six) years of age, a 3R (3R) size (lab print gray background) photograph must be submitted.
  4. Most recent original Bangladeshi passport and its photocopy (if lost, GD/police report containing the number of the lost passport),
  5. Photocopy of Bangladeshi NID (both front and back sides on one page) or photocopy of the Birth Registration Certificate (BRC) as well as a copy of the webpage with BRC data verified at https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/,
  6. If you are a US citizen, a photocopy of Dual Nationality Certificate issued by the Government of Bangladesh, and a photocopy of valid US passport,
  7. Photocopy of legal status in the US, e.g. valid visa or permanent resident card.
  8. Photocopy of marriage/divorce registration certificate (if applicable),
  9. If there is any change in data from the most recent Bangladeshi MRP/E-passport, please submit relevant supporting documents as per the Circular of the Ministry of Home Affairs attached below. You also need to fill in the attached Self-declaration Form (Ongikarnama).
  10. If the passport is lost or stolen, a GD must be filed immediately at the nearest police station and a photocopy of the lost passport and the original copy of the GD must be submitted at the time of applying for a new passport.
